PALUCLIM – Impacts of climatic factors on the production of malaria vectors in rural areas of Sahel and adaptation strategies – Application to the Nouna region in Burkina-Faso
The production of risk maps based on satellite images gives a new approach of tele-epidemiology.
In Sudan-Sahel Burkina Faso, Nouna region, malaria is endemic but dependent on rainfall regime.
Paluclim project’s purpose is to study the impact of climatic variability (from seasonal to low frequencies, including tendencies and climate changes) on pluviometry and consequently on risk forecast.
Therefore, a monthly statistical distribution starting from rainfall events and their uncertainties is forecasted and will be available in a monthly report where you will find season forecast, rainfall distribution frequency and vectors’ presence risk maps.
On a regional scale, pluviometry tendencies and forecasts maps, also including anthropogenic component, will be produced.
Forecast of risk areas for population will therefore allow implementing adaptation strategies in order to mitigate climate impacts on daily scale, seasonal scale and on a longer term scale (taking into account climate change).
The purpose is to prove how these risk maps may contribute to the implementation of health watch politics and be integrated in early warning systems.
Efficient new methods of fight against malaria, decrease of vectors’ number and economical measures could then be established.
